Spectator carbon offset initiative launched

27 October 2011

Kingdom Sports Group is participating in an important initiative by BP, the Official Oil and Gas Partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

While public transport, walking and cycling options for spectators, as well as the use of lower carbon fuels, will reduce emissions, BP estimates that carbon emissions from ticketed spectators will amount in total to some 400,000 tonnes.

Through its not-for-profit programme Target Neutral (www.bptargetneutral.com), BP is offering to offset this carbon for spectators who participate in their programme. BP will pay the full offset costs on behalf of spectators, so it costs them nothing. The money BP pays for the offsets will be invested into low carbon development projects around the world. For London 2012, BP is aiming to set a new world record for the largest number of individuals to offset their carbon from travel to a single event.
